First week of 9KLE in school /Science Class(Reflection)

Since the first day of school is scary for most students, I try to make their day more relaxing and less stressful with a fun activity that requires art and writing. I give each student one white piece of paper (Xerox paper is perfect). I tell my students that we are going to draw faces — not just ordinary faces, but wacky faces. First, I have my students write their names on the back, and then I tell them to draw a very large oval; they can add ears but nothing else. Then the students hand their paper to the left. Then the students add eyes and eyebrows to the existing face oval and ears. Then, pass the paper. Next, add a mouth. Then, pass the paper. Next, add hair and any other finishing touches. (I tell the kids that tattoos are not acceptable.) I also give them 5-6 minutes to draw and colour each facial feature they add. When the face is completed, it is given to the student whose name was on the back.

Now the writing begins. The picture of the face is a new student at your school. The students must write what it is like for this new student on his or her first day of school. Here are some writing suggestions: Was this person scared to come to the first day of school? Could he or she sleep the night before? What did he or she wear? Who took him to school? Did she meet anyone? The wonderful things about this project are that it brings out creativity, it's fun, and students soon forget any first-day jitters they may have! Also, it makes a wonderful item to display at Back-to-School Night!

Genomics-Reflection 9Ttt

28 July 2020         Can Science explain Life?

This week we have stared Genomics in all year 9's in school. Students were very excited to learn about Life and origin of lie and who comes first on this earth? When I introduced Genomics, students listened very carefully and starts asking questions about Life, animals, birds. To begin with the topic, the first task we did in class was Find out similarities and differences between Primates and Homosipens. All students have done so well and tried to find similarities and differences. After that, I showed them a video clip regarding the Origin of Life. Students had so many questions regarding Life and how Life originate so we discussed and I try to give the answer to all students.

We did a Venn diagram to find similarities and difference between Primates and Homosipens. Then, I add whale in between and tell students to write characteristics, behaviour and habitat of all of three. I gave them A3 paper and divide students in the group and gave them a task. Students dis so well and very curious about their work. Next week I have planned, I will see Life tree to introduced Life of animals, birds, mammals, and humans.

Last day of Term 2 with Year 10

School Can Be Fun, Easy, and Entertaining

Today(3 July), was the last day of term 2 in the school. I tried to make this day entertaining, creative and fun-loving for my students. So, I prepared an interesting Kahoot for my classes based on NEw Zealand. Students loved it. I announced the prize for the first three winners. But, the end, of course, I shared a cupcake with every student for their participation in-game. We talked about different exciting places in New Zealand and shared activities which they will do during the holidays. Some students have a plan for holidays, and they were very excited. It was a very fun-loving class. Everyone enjoyed it and happy.
A Happy Bid Goodbye
When you arrive with your class at your predetermined goodbye spot, make it a point to bump fists or shake hands with each student, in modest celebration of another great day.
Big smiles, happy students, a final reminder that your classroom is a special place.
A place both teacher and students, love being a part of.

Bones and Skeleton(Reflection)

This week's topic was Bones and Skeleton. I tried a few activities with my STEAM classes. I start class with the introduction of bones and skeleton, and we discuss functions of bones and frame in the human body and in animals. The first activity was dissected fish head and count bones of a fish head. Students really enjoyed this activity and helped me in examining fish and counting bones.

Skeletal System: All the bones in the human body together are called the skeletal system. The skeletal system provides strength and rigidity to our agency, so we don't just flop around like jellyfish. We have 206 bones in our body. Each one has a function. Some bones offer protection to softer more fragile parts of the body. For example, the skull protects the brain, and the rib cage protects our heart and lungs.

Other bones, like bones in our legs and arms, help us to move around by providing support for our muscles. The skeletal system includes more than just bones. It also includes tendons, ligaments, and cartilage. Tendons attach our bones to muscles so we can move around. Ligaments connect bones to other bones.

I

In the first half of the class, students learned about different types of bones in the human body. Students did dissection and complete worksheets and read handouts about bones and skeleton. The second half, students draw different bones skeleton in their science project books—Skeleton of dog, fish, bird and many more.

In the end, I played a video for students.

It was a perfect topic, and students participated very well.

Earthworms-Reflection

This week's topic was Earthworms. It was good to know, the student knows about earthworms, their advantages in our garden and why worms help in nutrition and growth of plants. The topic starts with a discussion of earthworms, it' behaviour and functions. After that, I showed them a video related to worms. Students took notes and discuss the video in the class.

After that, we read handout in the class and highlight the critical thing on handouts. In the end, I gave them real worms and students notice them and their behaviour, length, width etc.

Come back to School (First week after LOCKDOWN)

18 May 2020

This week is the first week of students and teachers after COVID -19 lockdown. As a teacher, I am excited, nervous and even scarred. Overall, I have a mixture of feelings. I am expecting the same feelings from students, parents, and caregivers for the school. And it is obvious.

The best way to reassure someone who is feeling worried about the transition back to school is to first listen to their concerns and acknowledge that their feelings are valid. Provide reassurance that whatever they are feeling is OK. As adults, we often want to rush in and fix problems or help to logically explain away the concerns. Focus on the feelings and emotions rather than on practicalities at this stage.
Some fear or concern about change is normal, and it is this degree of respect that helps us to make plans to ensure our safety.

Once your child/student has had the opportunity to tell you about their feelings, they can be encouraged to focus on what they can do to manage their concerns. Particularly with older children, a problem-solving approach can be helpful. Encourage them to generate a range of possible solutions to the problems they raise and then select the ones that they think will work best for them.

Provide as much information about returning to school as possible. It is likely that during level 2, the school may be somewhat different than it was before we went into lockdown. Sharing examples of timetables, physical arrangements and some fun activities that are coming up during the term will be helpful. Information about the precautions being taken by school staff to ensure the safety of students and staff is reassuring.

Students achievement in online learning.

Online Teaching                             Date 8 may 2020

This is another week of distance teaching. I am really enjoying my online teaching. Moreover, students are more focused, punctual, and dedicated to their learning. I think, it is a great opportunity for me to help, support and encourage my students in their learnings. There are some lowlights of online teaching are numbers of students are not very big. Some students joining hangouts and are completing their work to standard. Though, online teaching is very convenient, I can't wait enough for life to be normal and back ton track.

My year 9, 10 and level 3 Biology students are doing very good in online learning. They are so involved in learning and always eager to complete their work in the time frame. If for some reason they can't finish work on time they try to complete on same day and email me. This is great opportunity to establish a healthy relationship with learners. Some students got learning support during Lockdown and it is good for their learning. I can see change in their learning. Most of them have completed their tasks on student dashboard and Education perfect. Moreover their leraning graph is also increasing with their percentage. It was good change. I hope they will maintain their learning and show more enforcement in the class and will do more better.

Plastic- Save Environment(Reflection)

This week was a fabulous week for STEAM. This week we discussed different types of plastics, and it's uses and dangerous effect on the environment. Class starts with a simple discussion of plastics. Like, Plastic is a kind of material that is made by people and can be formed into almost any shape. Most plastics are strong, long-lasting, and lightweight. They resist damage by water, heat, chemicals, and electricity. Also, plastics can be made in many colours. After discussion, we read handouts of plastics and then students did cut and paste activity of uses of plastics. It was the positive, negative and neutral effect of plastics.

Last activity on Plastic was sorting out different plastics according to their codes from 1 to 7.

Students brought their own Plastic from their homes and then in groups, they sorted out their plastics and gave them codes.
